Maroon swirls

I had extra frosting after doing some MSU themed cookies, so I did a few swirly cookies for my goodie basket.  I think the swirls came out pretty cute!  They would look really good in fun, bright colors.

Goodies Galore

I didn't have to work my day job yesterday, which means I was in the kitchen baking up a storm.  Since I had two orders to fill, the kitchen was covered in a cloud of flour and powdered sugar as soon as I walked in the door.  The goodies were for a co-worker sending a thank you basket.  I did tea cakes, chocolate dipped cookies, ranger cookies (Yum!), chocolate oatmeal, lemon crisps, and a few other things.  Maybe this will be a Christmas/holiday project for this year.

Granny's Birthday Part 2

This blog should be titled Father Knows Best.  My dad ordered this cake and came up with the slogan.  Then he said he wanted stick figures all over it.   I tried to talk him out of it for two weeks and kept giving him different ideas, but he wouldn't budge.  I was about to scrap the cake and start a new one the day before, because I still wasn't feeling the stick figure idea.  Exhaustion and my dad's determination made me finish it though.  And I must say Daddy really does know best, I think the stick figures are really cute and I had fun making them all different.  And polka dots always make me happy!

Granny's Birthday Part 1

My grandmother's 80th birthday was this past weekend, so we had a big family get together.  I made a batch of the famous Watson Tea Cakes and decorated them for the party.  Cake pictures to follow soon!

My very first cake!

This was for a wedding shower at my sister's school.  It was my first "professional" cake and I was a little nervous, but I think it turned out pretty well!

Wedding/Engagement Cookies

I made these for Allison's last day of work before the big day.  And because I really wanted to play with my new cookie cutters.  Congrats Allison!
I really need to work on my photography skills...

More Cookies!

These were for a wine and cheese themed wedding shower.  I had no idea what to do at first, but I finally settled on grapes and wine bottles.  I didn't think a block of cheese would make an appetizing cookie :)

And so it all began...

It all started on a whim, I sent cookies to Erin's school and I was open for business!  My very first order was a batch of flower cookies for a girl scout troop.  I had a minor crisis when I realized the new royal icing recipe refused to dry.  A few hours and two fans later, I made the delivery.  Ahh sweet success!

Recipe Development

I have recipes scattered all over the place that I plan to (some day) try..  Pull a plate out of the cabinet and a few paper scraps with a recipe scribbled on it will come flying out.  I'm also known to store them in my glovebox, purse, scrub pockets, and basically anywhere I can leave them without my my sister tidying them up (aka moving them to never be found again).  I finally tried a few that I could mix and match with my basics.  My best by far were PB&C - a chocolate cupcake with a peanut butter filling and peanut butter buttercream Yum! and my personal fave Lemon Dream Supreme- a white cupcake with lemon curd filling and fresh lemon buttercream.  Even Brian, a self-proclaimed chocaholic has been asking when I'll make them again.  Up next Paula Deen's Pearlicious Cake and Champagne Cupcakes!

Beachy Birthday

My sister's birthday was a few weeks ago and there is nothing she loves more than the beach.  Since her party was at the lake I decided a beach themed cake would be perfect.  My sleep deprived delirium resulted in a slightly janky sun, which I broke right before the pictures.  I made a new one the next day, but forgot to take pictures :(

Zebra Cake

I've really been wanting to try a zebra cake for a while now, so I was really excited when I was asked to do a cake and to run wild.  I knew Judy liked zebra, so I went for it!  Here are the results:
